Yaxi Huang, who is originally from China, worked as a nurse for six years before moving to the U.S. When she arrived, she wanted a career change, and she zeroed in on a career as a statistician in the pharmaceutical industry.
“As a nurse, I had been involved with clinical studies, giving the patient medicine and recording their response to it,” Huang said.

A class of University of Delaware communication students put theory into practice last semester by partnering with a nonprofit organization in Lewes, Delaware, on a project to save the last forested area in the popular coastal town.
The students in professor Steve Momorella’s public relations campaign planning class joined forces with the Greater Lewes Foundation’s Open Space Alliance to create a public relations campaign about the Fourth Street Preserve project.

Jenna Tomasch has been involved with just about all of the programs offered by Horn Entrepreneurship during her time at the University of Delaware, describing Horn as being instrumental in getting her startup off the ground to where it is today.
“I’ve done VentureOn, Summer Founders, Hen Hatch and Pitch Party,” said Tomasch, a senior honors student majoring in fashion design and product innovation.

It may be the most commonly asked question on campus: “What’s your major?” Sometimes the answer is, “I’m undeclared.”
For Emma DeRobertis, now a junior majoring in secondary math education, being an undeclared first-year student sometimes left her feeling behind and like an anomaly among her peers: a college student uncertain of her potential career field or a pathway to figure it out. Then she began using the resources offered by the University of Delaware’s University Studies (UST).

Editor’s note: A celebration of Dr. David Herman’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 18, at the Newark United Methodist Church, 69 East Main St. in Newark.
H. David Herman, Trustees Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Music and former University organist at the University of Delaware, died of cancer on April 8. He was 79.
Dr. Herman joined the UD faculty in 1987 as chair of the Department of Music (now the School of Music), and he served in that position for 14 years.

To Jon Cox, associate professor of art and design at the University of Delaware, photography is a universal language with the potential to create social change and healing.
Cox recently returned from Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, where he spent three weeks as a Fulbright Specialist leading workshops for Ukrainian refugees, members of Roma communities and other displaced people, empowering them to tell their stories through photography.
