Sattar chose UD in part because of its geographic location. “You’re just hours away from New York, D.C., and Philly is right here,” he said. He also selected UD because it’s a top-tier research institution. Sattar studies the bacteria that causes tuberculosis alongside his mentor, Vijay Parashar, assistant professor of medical and molecular sciences. “I have a passion for problem-solving, and disease is among the hardest problems to solve,” Sattar said.

This year on GivingTuesday, held Dec. 3, the University of Delaware community invites Blue Hens and friends to support the 140 fundraising projects featured on HenFunder, UD’s crowdfunding platform.
Each fundraising initiative was created by Blue Hens for Blue Hens to help the UD community thrive. From scholarships and experiential learning experiences, to sports teams and equity initiatives, there are options for every Blue Hen to support their passions.

The University will kick off International Education Week on Friday, Nov. 15, with a special reception at International Coffee Hour. A beloved campus tradition, International Coffee Hour is UD’s premier venue for meeting hundreds of Blue Hens from around the world every Friday afternoon in Trabant University Center. Christie went on to talk about character-defining moments in leadership, such as the Jan. 6 attack at the U.S. Capitol. “It takes character to accept losing,” said Christie, adding, “I’ve won elections, and I’ve lost elections, and winning is so much better. But it’s your character that says, ‘OK, give me the phone so I can congratulate the winner.’ It’s your character that makes you show up at their inauguration.

“It was one of the most impressive buildings I’ve ever seen,” said Taveroni. “We got to see firsthand how Swedish public healthcare functions and spent the day with an attending oncologist.” They also visited SciLifeLab, a Swedish national center for large-scale research focused on drug development. “We learned about pharmacogenomics; this was the biomedical engineering side of the field that I hadn’t been exposed to, where I learned about drug development ahead of clinical trials,” she said.
