Happy last month of school to all who celebrate. With proms and most graduations for the Classes of 2025 behind them, Delaware students can now look to months of summer ahead. That means this is the last week for about four public school districts, while the rest will end the academic year next Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. In the meantime, a trend of student support fills some positive education news this week.

Delaware's attorney general is lobbing another lawsuit against the Trump administration as of May 29. This time, it hopes to protect some $10 million for University of Delaware research. Kathy Jennings has joined 15 other Democratic attorneys general in suing to block cuts to the National Science Foundation, or programs and funding to fuel research and education in science, technology, engineering and math.

Rep. Sherae'a "Rae" Moore has been removed as vice-chair of the state House Education Committee, according to a statement issued by Delaware House Speaker Melissa Minor-Brown. Moore's removal comes a little over three weeks after Delaware Online/The News Journal published an investigation that found her among more than 400 public school educators who were working with expired or missing licenses in March.

Kelly Powers Shannon Marvel McNaught Ben MaceDelaware News JournalMore than 15,500 Delawareans turned out to vote in school board elections on May 13, according to the unofficial results from the Delaware Department of Elections. Even with rough totals, that's a nearly 176% increase in turnout compared to 2024, which also saw nine fewer contested races. This year, 11 school districts drew voters to the polls, totaling 16 contested elections for open seats.
