In the spring months, there isn’t much going on at the Fitzgerald Field House. Maybe some track practices or intramural volleyball games, but nothing of huge importance to a Pitt fan. But on Sunday, Pitt volleyball gave the 73-year-old building the purpose reminiscent of the fall and winter months. The Panthers hosted rival Penn State in front of a packed and raucously loud crowd for an exhibition game.

On picturesque sunny days in Pittsburgh strolling past Cathy Lawn, I often witness groups of friends playing volleyball, sunbathing or enjoying picnics. While the scene exudes joy, it once stirred an inexplicable pang within me. Whether stemming from envy or a tinge of melancholy, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I might never experience having a large group of friends. Over time, that sadness went away.

12:55 am Pitt men’s basketball is starting early in the transfer portal this offseason, earning a commitment from Florida State sophomore forward Cam Corhen. Corhen entered the portal after averaging 9.4 points and 3.9 rebounds for the Seminoles. Corhen gives the Panthers much-needed help in the frontcourt after the departures of junior center Federiko Federiko and redshirt junior forward Will Jeffress to the transfer portal.

Pitt baseball (14-18, 4-14 ACC) travels to Morgantown this Tuesday for another Backyard Brawl against No. 22 West Virginia (22-13, 11-4 BIG-12). To succeed, the Panthers need to perform well at bat and break down the Mountaineers’ tough defense. The Panthers’ batting performance this past Sunday against Duke is exactly what they must emulate for the Brawl this week. Despite losing the series, Pitt’s offense led to a much-needed ACC win in the final game.

It’s crazy to think I’m graduating college in just two weeks when it feels like just yesterday I was moving into Bruce Hall. Looking back at the last three and a half years, I’m glad I took the opportunity to make as many fun memories as I could — especially when the first year and a half was during COVID-19. I’m kind of thankful for the COVID-19 era — death and tragedy aside — because that led me to have the friends I have now.
