TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — Dry and hot conditions will continue across southern Arizona through the week with another round of extreme heat late this week. There is an extreme heat warning in effect across the region until Monday at 8 p.m. Then later in the week, an extreme heat watch will go into effect Thursday morning through Friday evening. Temperatures will generally be 5 to 12 degrees above normal this week with a bit more cooling next weekend.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — A few years ago, the City of Tucson updated its floodplain rules to better protect new homes from flooding during monsoon season — and the process is more involved than you might think. Elizabeth Leibold, a civil engineer with the City of Tucson, says the 2021 Floodplain Ordinance raised safety standards for builders, especially those constructing near regional watercourses.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — The sentencing for Jana Giron, convicted in a 2019 crash that killed two young adults, was delayed Monday morning after nearly an hour of waiting in Pima County Superior Court. Giron was scheduled to be sentenced at 11 a.m., but Judge Christopher Browning announced the hearing would be rescheduled for next Monday, June 16. More than 80 people filled the courtroom in anticipation of the decision, including friends and family members of the victims.

Cathy Robinson, a Rancho Vistoso resident, was pushing her trash can to the curb one evening when she felt a sudden, searing pain in her foot. “I might have even stepped on him,” Robinson said.
