No. 1 Michigan State dropped its first game in over a month as No. 10 Michigan outlasted the Spartans, 3-2, in overtime Friday night at Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor. The Spartans held a 2-1 advantage for most of the third period, but Michigan junior T.J. Hughes used a a back-handed goal in front of the net to tie the game at two with just 5:35 left. Neither team scored for the remainder of the period, so the game went to overtime. The three-on-three overtime period was short-lived, however.

After a Friday night that was full of hard lessons for the Michigan State hockey team, Saturday night was a night full of optimism that the Spartans can compete with the best teams in college hockey. After being shutout 3-0 by Boston College on Friday night, Michigan State Head Coach Adam Nightingale made some changes in his lineup for the matchup on Saturday night. The only addition to the lineup was freshman center Mikey DeAngelo who centered the fourth line for the Spartans.

A preseason NBA game between the Detroit Pistons and the Phoenix Suns will take place at the Breslin Center on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7:00 p.m., Michigan State announced Wednesday. This isn’t the first time the Breslin Center has hosted a preseason NBA game. The Pistons also participated in games at the arena in 2018 and 2000. They hosted an open scrimmage at the Breslin Center in 2019. This year’s game represents the first time the Phoenix Suns will play at the Breslin Center.
