Michigan State added another player via the transfer portal on Friday in redshirt freshman defensive back Elisha West. West will arrive in East Lansing after just one season at Merrimack College, a Division I FCS program located in North Andover, Mass. West, a preferred walk-on, will reunite with his younger brother, Aydan West, at Michigan State. Aydan, a member of the Spartans’ 2025 class, joined the program a true freshman in January.

No. 1 Michigan State dropped its first game in over a month as No. 10 Michigan outlasted the Spartans, 3-2, in overtime Friday night at Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor. The Spartans held a 2-1 advantage for most of the third period, but Michigan junior T.J. Hughes used a a back-handed goal in front of the net to tie the game at two with just 5:35 left. Neither team scored for the remainder of the period, so the game went to overtime. The three-on-three overtime period was short-lived, however.

After a Friday night that was full of hard lessons for the Michigan State hockey team, Saturday night was a night full of optimism that the Spartans can compete with the best teams in college hockey. After being shutout 3-0 by Boston College on Friday night, Michigan State Head Coach Adam Nightingale made some changes in his lineup for the matchup on Saturday night. The only addition to the lineup was freshman center Mikey DeAngelo who centered the fourth line for the Spartans.
