RANTOUL, Ill. (WCIA) — Parts of Central Illinois woke up to damage from the previous night’s severe weather on Wednesday morning. Heavy winds swept across some of the area Tuesday night causing damage. In Rantoul, heavy winds caused a tree to snap and fall over onto a mobile home. The family was sleeping inside when it all happened. Six people hurt, nine cars towed in Rt 54 dust storm crashes When the tree came crashing right through their ceiling, it landed in the room below.

(WCIA) — A restaurant in the village of Mahomet was knocked down Thursday morning. WCIA 3 Chief Meteorologist Kevin Lighty filmed parts of the destruction through a drone. The restaurant previously closed in October, and its owner died in August.

We hope you enjoyed the warm weather today, because a 180 is in store tomorrow. A cold front moves through tonight and will make for some chilly temperatures right when we wake up Sunday. We will drop all the way down to the lower 30s and upper 20s tonight, and with the wind only letting up a little bit, the wind chill will probably be somewhere in the mid to lower 20s. Sunday’s highs will be a good 15-20 degrees colder than today’s.

Starting later this afternoon, we will see a steady dose of high rainfall chances all the way through Wednesday as a stingy system makes some noise across the area. A Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) for severe storms is in place across a very thin area in Central Illinois today, with a Marginal Risk covering everywhere else.

It’s been a cloudy go of things here the last few days, and we will continue to see those clouds moving forward along with a good deal of showers. Our next system is set to arrive later this evening, and rain chances look rather high as this one rolls in. The best chances for rain will be after 10 PM tonight through 6 AM tomorrow, but another round is expected to pick up later on in the day Friday. Most of this 2nd round should be out of the area before the day gets started Saturday.
