The owner of Staybridge Suites and Holiday Inn Express hotels in Glendale is proposing to build another hotel and two restaurants on the same property. Hamilton-based Niagara York Road Inc. applied to Niagara-on-the-Lake planning staff to redesignate the property to a site-specific hospitality precinct to allow for a 10-storey building with 207 suites on 2.83 hectares of land. The property is east of Glendale Avenue, north of York Road, west of Counsell Street and south of Queenston Road.

Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Upper Canada Heritage Trail will be extended starting in mid-June from Line 3 Road to Line 4 Road. Heritage Trail Committee vice-chair Tony Chisholm said the organization recently received some grant funding to help with the project. “It’s great to get it to Line 4,” said Chisholm. “It’s good news. It’s growing in fits and starts.” He said it should take town staff about two to three weeks to complete the short portion of the trail to Line 4 Road.
