A Sunset Park man will spend 25 years in prison for fatally stabbing his former partner in 2019. Sheng Mao Chen, 48, was convicted of first-degree manslaughter in May, nearly six years after the killing of 46-year-old Xiu Rong Zheng in Sunset Park. He was sentenced to prison in Brooklyn Supreme Court on Wednesday, after a bench trial. According to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office, Chen and Zheng had been involved in an extramarital affair.

A “first-of-its-kind” Brooklyn-centric music festival is coming to Kings County this summer. Planet Brooklyn, a two-day, multi-venue experience, will debut in Downtown Brooklyn on Aug. 23 and 24. Hosted by BSE Global — the parent company of the Barclays Center, New York Liberty and the Brooklyn Nets — the festival aims to uplift the borough’s diverse culture and arts through music.

Basketball and books are colliding as the Brooklyn Public Library teams up with the New York Liberty to release special-edition Liberty-themed library cards. The cards — featuring images of the championship-winning WNBA team and its iconic mascot, Ellie the Elephant, will be available at all BPL branches starting on Monday, June 2 — but only 100,000 will be released.

By Kirstyn Brendlen, Brooklyn PaperWith an extra year tacked onto the ongoing renovation of the Carroll Gardens Library, Community Board 6 has offered its “underutilized” office space to serve as a temporary library until next summer. The temporary library is set to open at 250 Baltic Street in July, according to CB6 and the Brooklyn Public Library, though an exact date has yet to be announced.
