Pickering Coun. Lisa Robinson has lost her case against the City of Pickering and its integrity commissioner — and now she has to pay thousands of dollars in legal fees. The Ontario Divisional Court’s decision, released May 30, ultimately dismissed the Ward 1 city councillor’s request for compensation. Instead, it ordered her to pay $30,000 to the city. “I will be appealing this decision,” Robinson said in a statement.

Traffic and age cause roads to get beat up over time and Pickering streets are no exception. Council recently approved more than $3 million for asphalt resurfacing on 10 city streets. The project is expected to cost more than $3.2 million and it will be reduced to $2.9 million after the HST rebate. The costs include $2.5 million for the contractor to complete the work as well as geotechnical investigation reports, material testing and contingency.

A 13-year-old boy has been arrested after the fatal stabbing of a senior woman Thursday afternoon in Pickering. The shelter in place order by the City of Pickering was lifted three hours after it began. A 13-year-old is in police custody. The shelter in place has been lifted and there is no longer a concern for public safety. Thank you to our community members for your understanding during this time. Our thoughts remain with the victim and her family.

A local small business owner was shocked when she went to her Whitby office one day last week, only to be met by a bailiff telling her she was unable to enter. Pope is one of nearly 70 small business owners renting space at 105 Consumers Dr. who recently received notice upon arriving at the commercial building, the Durham Corporate Centre, that it was being repossessed by the landlord, Sterling Karamar Property Management. She spoke to Whitby This Week while unloading her office items.
