    A St. Paul man has been convicted by a federal jury after authorities intercepted more than 50,000 fentanyl pills being sent to him. After a three-day trial in U.S. District Court, Kurtis Lavonte Gordon-Greenwood, 30, was convicted on one count of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, one count of attempted possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to acting U.S. Attorney Lisa D.     A group calling for South St. Paul City Council member Pamela Bakken to step down said it filed paperwork Friday morning asking for her official recall after a child in her care was exposed to methamphetamine. The Minnesota Department of Human Services suspended the in-home day care license held by Bakken, citing an “imminent risk of harm” to the children in her care after officials began investigating a child who reportedly had swallowed an unknown substance.

    MINNEAPOLIS — A Hennepin County judge found a Twin Cities painting contractor guilty of deliberately underpaying five workers. The felony wage theft conviction of Frederick Leon Newell is believed to be the first under a 2019 Minnesota law. Judge Michael Burns entered the conviction Wednesday, April 9, following a January bench trial. Burns also found Newell guilty of theft by swindle for deceiving the general contractor that hired him.

    A Lakeville man was convicted this week of one count of felony wage theft, marking the first conviction of its kind under a 2019 state law.     A state trooper responding to reports of a crash involving a wrong-way driver in central Minnesota crashed into one of the vehicles at the scene, according to the State Patrol. The incident occurred Wednesday night on U.S. 10 in Clear Lake. Five people were injured in the twin collisions, including a juvenile who suffered life-threatening injuries, according to the State Patrol. The other four people had non-life-threatening injuries.
