Brady Stetter, Phoebe Ruth and Madeline Youmans are heading to Anaheim, Calif. to compete in the Future Business Leaders of America national competition. The students, all North-Penn Mansfield seniors, took first place at states with their chapter project “Start Up Sharks.”Moira Wheeler, a sophomore, will also join them on the trip to California after placing third in states for her speech on ethics.

BLOSSBURG — On Monday night Bonnie Thompson, business manager for Southern Tioga School District presented the 2025-26 proposed final budget which will be voted on in June’s board meeting. Thompson informed the board that local revenues for the district have decreased by $66,626 which was due to the real estate tax line which had no increase in real estate taxes.

COUDERSPORT — Pop Angelo, Judge Lewis and Canadian whiskey were all part of the tales told by Potter County Historical Society president David Castano during the Coudersport Prohibition Bus Tour held during the 57th Annual Potter-Tioga Maple Festival. The tours were presented by the Eliot Ness Museum and gave festival-goers a chance to learn about the days of Prohibition in Potter County.

COUDERSPORT — The Coudersport High School band still made its way down Main Street, the music in the gazebo went on and the babies made their debut though the rain came down heavy on the 57th Annual Coudersport Maple Festival. This year, a new float carrying the court of the Maple Festival Maple Boy and Girl contests made its way to the gazebo on Courthouse Square where the winner was announced.

Royalty will preside over the borough of Coudersport during the 57th Annual Coudersport Maple Festival being held in the courthouse square on Saturday. One baby girl and one baby boy will be crowned Baby Boy Maple and Baby Girl Maple in a new contest organized by the Coudersport Chamber of Commerce. This year there are three baby boys and three baby girls that will ride in a float in the parade and the winners will be announced at the gazebo.

For nearly 40 years, hard work, dedication and commitment have defined the lives of Gary and Carol Phelps. The couple were high school sweethearts and have raised two sons, Michael and Ben. They have shared many things during their life together, including rides to work. Both Gary and Carol worked at the Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro, now UPMC Wellsboro.

Poles for fishing, kayaks for kayaking and bows for archery. All will be available for visitors as Earth Day is celebrated at Mill Cove Environmental Center. Traditionally, April 22 marks Earth Day every year, but the organizers decided to hold the celebration on Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. hoping that the weather will cooperate. Last year the event was canceled due to the weather.

In the winter of 1879, Henry Colton was a jobber, charged with supervising a timber crew cutting the land over in what is now Colton State Park. Tim Morey, natural resource program specialist for the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, shared that fact during the induction of Colton Point State Park and Bark Cabin Natural Area located in Tiadaghton State Forest to the Old Growth Forest Network.
Commonwealth MU club competes in Nationals

Myken Barnes began catching fish at 3 or 4 years old and began entering fishing tournaments at the ripe old age of six. Today, Barnes, who grew up in Williamsport, is a freshman at Commonwealth University-Mansfield and is a member of the Mansfield Bass Fishing Club along with his fishing partner Beaux Rohrbaugh. Both are students at Mansfield and are in the Fisheries Biology program. Barnes and Rohrbaugh, recently travelled to Wheeler Lake in Decatur, Ala.
