Rotella presents option to STSD

On Monday night, the Southern Tioga School District’s board of directors heard an option for the building renovation project. Superintendent Sam Rotella reported that Alloy 5 Architecture representatives are prepared to attend the July 14 meeting to provide the scope of work for the $40 million borrowing project that was approved by the board. Rotella said that lead architect Randy Galiotto felt that putting money into the Liberty elementary school building is not a good use of funds.

Tice Historical Trail opened in Mansfield, the Mansfield Garden Club decided that, as part of its mission to beautify the borough, they would tend the garden plots along the trail. Special Olympics recognizes leader's commitment

The 2025 Tioga County Special Olympics Track and Field Day was held May 30 at Commonwealth U-Mansfield and for Addie Milheim, it marked the last year she would act as coordinator for the event. Milheim became involved in the Special Olympics over 30 years ago because her brother has Down’s syndrome and she is the multi-disabled support teacher at North Penn Mansfield. For the last 20 years she has held the position of Special Olympics athletic event coordinator.

MANSFIELD — At the end of a second-floor hall in Warren L. Miller Elementary School, a window overlooking the grounds has become home to a project under the overview of Lawrence Bubeck’s class. The project’s goal is to grow enough greens, tomatoes, lettuces and radishes for students to share a meal together. Though the project has been using traditional electric to run the lights, three solar panels, wired by the sixth graders, are being installed.

It was a sunny Memorial Day morning. Mike Bogaczyk, a retired Marine with 30 years of service, remarked that Mother Nature must be a veteran during his speech at the first Memorial Day Observance in Covington Township since new monuments were placed at the town square. The observance honored the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the freedoms of the United States. Bogaczyk gave the sobering numbers of the fallen soldiers who died in service to the country.
Blossburg coal festival

The Blossburg State Coal Festival has been drawing visitors to the borough for 33 years. The festival, which celebrates the coal mining heritage of the town, marks the beginning of the summer season and features a parade, Little League games, car show and many other activities. On May 19 in Duncan Tavern in Antrim, an unshaven man with a backpack nearly half his height enjoyed a hot meal before once again taking to the Mid State Trail. Dr. Colby Wesner started the 331-mile hike of the Mid State Trail at Maryland’s north border on April 27 and followed the blazed trail to Antrim, where he spent the previous night camping behind the old barn that used to house the coal mine’s mules.

On May 21, a ceremony was held at the Corey Creek Golf Club for participants that completed the nine-month program. “The leadership program started years ago. They work on a variety of leadership skills that help them learn more about what they have to offer in Tioga County.
