HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – Three animals have a new place to call home after being moved from a shuttered Myrtle Beach area roadside zoo. A cougar was transferred to Carolina Tiger Rescue in Pittsboro, North Carolina and a coatimundi and pot-bellied pig are on their way to Lions Tigers and Bears in California, according to PETA. The animal rights organization said the two sanctuaries are accredited.

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – There is an unusual reason as to why traffic was backed up on Highway 501 on Thursday afternoon. Horry County Fire Rescue crews had to block lanes heading toward the beach due to a “large amount of greasy, cooked chicken” being spilled on the road. The agency responded to the spillage just before 3 p.m. in the area of Highway 501 and Legends Drive.

ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WMBF) – The Robeson County sheriff has a message for students: making school threats is not a joke. It comes after two students were arrested and charged in connection to recent threats made this past week at two schools in the county. A 14-year-old Red Springs Middle School student was charged after the sheriff’s office received information about threats being made toward the school.

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – A 12-year-old Georgetown County student will be allowed to return home but with some conditions after authorities said he threatened to shoot his classmates. The Carvers Bay Middle School student admitted to making school threats during a juvenile detention hearing on Thursday at the Georgetown County Family Court. The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office said the 12-year-old sent text messages to classmates on Monday threatening to shoot them.

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – The family of a woman who was shot and killed inside her Myrtle Beach area home released a statement on her death. Wanda Lowry’s son, Scott Riddle, sent a statement to WMBF News where he called his mother’s death tragic and senseless. In the statement, he said his mother opened her home to a co-worker who she believed was a good person going through a bad time.
