    Poppy displays have been put in place to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day. Knitted and crocheted poppies have been installed across Macduff and Banff to mark the milestone. They can be seen in Macduff at the cross and anchor, war memorial and Myrus cemetery. There is a also a display at Banff Parish Church.

    A charity which focuses on marine conservation has received a £15,000 boost. Gardenstown-based Cetacean Research and Rescue Unit (CCRU) is one of three good causes across the north of Scotland that has been awarded a share of a £25,000 Scotmid funding pot. The funds were allocated following a vote by Scotmid members. CRRU is focused on the study, conservation and rescue of whales, dolphins and porpoises.

    A community venue will be the backdrop for a full VE Day event on Saturday. Held at Banff Castle it will mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day with music, heritage and a community tribute. Running from 10.45am to 6pm, the event will feature live entertainment, period displays and family-friendly fun.

    Amey will undertake resurfacing works on the A90 road from Tuesday, May 6. They will take place south of Fraserburgh, on an approximately 502-metre stretch of the carriageway from north of the Gash junction to the Gowanhill junction, until Wednesday, May 14. The £236,997 scheme will include works that will improve the surface to reduce the need for ongoing maintenance, benefiting more than 7000 daily road users. Works will take place each night from 7.30pm to 6.30am.
