A traffic collision on Highway 36 near Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park left one vehicle disabled after it collided with a tree on this evening. According to information from the California Highway Patrol’s Traffic Incident Information Page, the accident occurred at approximately 6:14 p.m. in the area around mile marker 17. According to the CHP page, an ambulance is responding but the patient likely has only minor injuries.

A collision involving two vehicles disrupted traffic on Highway 101 near the Trinidad offramp about 6 p.m. Emergency services are responding to reports of a vehicle rolling off the road. As of now, the collision has caused significant traffic impacts on both the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 101.

Stabbing on 3rd Street in Eureka This Afternoon Sends One to the Hospital A stabbing occurred around 2:30 p.m. today on 3rd Street between A and Commercial in Eureka, leaving a 47-year-old man injured. According to initial reports, the victim was stabbed in the back of his neck. This left a 3″ long stab wound. An ambulance took the man to the hospital. Eureka Police are investigating the situation.

At about 2:25 p.m., a traffic collision on northbound Highway 101 near the Bayside Cutoff this afternoon left two injured and the roadway is clear of vehicles and debris but drivers are moving slowly through the area, according to a report on the California Highway Patrol page. According to details from the page, a blue 2023 Hyundai Elantra was one of the vehicles involved. According to a first responder report over the scanner, two people have moderate injuries–one from each vehicle.

Just after 1 p.m. today, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, with assistance from the Fortuna Police Department, captured Joseph Larue, a fugitive wanted on multiple charges across state lines. Fortuna Police Chief Casey Day confirmed that Larue, who had been evading law enforcement for several weeks, was located at a residence near Newburg and Orchard in Fortuna. Although Larue attempted to flee on foot, officers were able to apprehend him fairly quickly.
