###More than six years after Eureka City Schools decided to sell off its vacated and deteriorating Jacobs Middle School campus, the district’s board of trustees may soon consummate a deal giving the State of California the exclusive right to purchase the property for $4 million. On Sunday morning, word came in from multiple sources about a big, weird airplane that had just landed at the California Redwood Coast-Humboldt County Airport in McKinleyville. Then, this morning, word comes that a bunch of military personnel have been bivouacked at the Wolf Creek Education Center near Orick, which lies on Redwood National Park land. These two things are connected. The plane, we are told, is a C-17 Globemaster III cargo hauler, which belongs to the U.S. Air Force.

In response to the Trump administration’s ongoing federal immigration raids in Los Angeles, Ventura County and beyond, the local community group Centro del Pueblo will host a “People’s Assembly” on the Arcata Plaza from 7:15 to 8 p.m. tonight. The goal of the event is to provide information while offering people a space to gather and talk about the raids being conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to Peyton Leone, a spokesperson for Centro del Pueblo.
