SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — As thousands of Mid-South students head out the door for school, one Memphis mom is fed up with seeing drivers speed through the school zones. Chloe Brewer is so upset that she has taken matters into her own hands.   “My concern is that it’s not going to be an issue until a kid loses their life, until a kid gets injured, until there’s a massive uproar…but why are we waiting?” Brewer said. Now she stands on the side of the street, telling drivers to slow down.

MEMPHIS, Tenn — It is Fire Prevention Week, and the colder months are coming, so we want you to be prepared and have a plan in place. Memphis Fire Department (MFD) spokeswoman Qwanesha Ward said there is normally an uptick in the number of house fires around this time of year. She said MFD responds to an average of 23,259 fire calls per year. The National Fire Protection Association reported an increase in fires related to cooking, so this year's theme is focused on cooking safety.

MEMPHIS, Tenn — The United Auto Workers (UAW) strike has continued across the country now for nearly a month after thousands of Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis employees walked off the job. There are now more than 25,000 members across the country who are on strike. Members at AC Delco Distribution Center said whether rain, sleet, shine, or snow, they are going to be there every single day and night until General Motors gives them what they have been asking for.

MEMPHIS, Tenn — Concerned residents and community members who use the Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) bus system are meeting with city leaders and MATA representatives to discuss issues within the public transit system at the Cossitt Public Library on Wednesday afternoon. Some frustrated residents expressed to ABC24 that more times than not, the buses are either not on time, or just do not show up at all.
