A discussion about an approximately $12,000 lease fee caused a stir in council chambers at its meeting March 19. BurlingtonGreen, a registered charity that works toward a more environmentally-responsible city, asked Burlington to forgive its lease payments in 2023. The organization has a facility license agreement with the city for exclusive use of the Beachway Park Pump House, which it pays the city just under $11,000 for annually.

For nearly a year The British Market has been offering residents and visitors of Burlington the opportunity to be transported across the Atlantic Ocean. With over 100 different varieties of potato chips, or crisps as they’re known in the United Kingdom, the store at 2465 Mount Forest Dr. at Guelph Line is a one-stop-shop for British goods. Manager Steve Wilkinson opened the store in April 2023 after finding it difficult to get the items he wanted.

Team T&J were at Burlington Centre March 14 to host the Kids Jumpin’ Jamboree as part of the mall’s March Break event week. Team T&J is a Canadian interactive children’s music and entertainment duo that performs all over North America.

Parents, grandparents and, of course, children had the chance to use their artistic talents at Creative Community Hive’s free pop-up open art studio multisensory story-weaving workshop on March 13 at St. Christopher Catholic Elementary School. Participants made different crafts, such as flip books, graphic illustrations, puppets, accordion books and collages. The organization hosts several different creative workshops and events.

An initiative started in 1988 by the Halton Regional Police Service is still going strong 36 years later. The Police Ethnic and Cultural Education Youth Leadership Program (PEACE) was created to promote cultural awareness among high school students and has been mirrored by police services across the country. Students between the ages of 14 and 17 earn volunteer hours for participating in the program, which happens twice each year for 11 weeks.
