AbstractBackground The total artificial heart (TAH) is an implanted device approved as a modality to stabilize patients with severe biventricular heart failure or persistent ventricular arrhythmias for evaluation and bridge to transplantation. According to the Interagency Registry for Mechanically Assisted Circulatory Support (INTERMACS), about 450 patients received a TAH between 2006 and 2018.

Thinking about outside activities is still a bit difficult, but next month is the Geneva City-Wide Garage Sale. Registering is easy. Visit genevachamber.com to sign up for the sale, which takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 26 and 27. For a nominal fee, the Geneva Chamber of Commerce will take care of all advertising, signage, online map and printed map handed out to key locations in Geneva. Deadline for the early bird participation price of $30 is April 4.

February, short and sweet, or should I say full of sweets – at least on Feb. 14 it could be. Chocolate, anyone? Maybe something in writing or flowers would brighten a special someone Valentine’s Day. I can think of at least a dozen places in downtown Geneva that would satisfy both of these and I know there are more. As I write this month’s article, it is a fabulous fall day. The air is crisp, the sun is shining bright and not a cloud can be seen in the azure blue sky. Therefore, it hardly seems like the right time to write about December. But I must because December is the month the Geneva Chamber brings the Christmas Walk and Holiday House Tour to Geneva. In the next few weeks, garlands and trees will frame our downtown.

October is probably my favorite month. It may be the cooler weather, the beautiful colors that fall produces, the chance to pull out forgotten sweaters or the fact the festive holiday season quickly is approaching. The objective of the current study was to characterize demographic factors, behaviors, and perceptions of patient involvement among surgeons relative to SDM. Methods: Using a cross-sectional survey methodology, surgeon demographics, behaviors, and perceptions of patient involvement were assessed.
