AQS QuiltWeek is less than a week away, and American Quilter’s Society staff members on Thursday began the process of moving the quilts into the Paducah-McCracken County Convention Center. Staffers hauled in box after box of quilts into the convention center, preparing to stage them for display. Quilts entered in the QuiltWeek competition were kept under wraps Thursday, and they will be judged starting Friday.

By LEANNE FULLER | The SunA Union City, Tennessee, man was sentenced to five years in prison Thursday for his role in a shooting that happened in 2023 outside the W.C. Young Community Center in Paducah. In May 2023, Omariyon Harper, then 20, was charged with four counts of first-degree assault and a dozen counts of first-degree wanton endangerment in connection to the shooting.

The Team Kentucky Storm Relief Fund established in February by Gov. Andy Beshear is also being used to help people affected by severe weather and flooding impacting the state this month. Providing an update on flooding in Kentucky during a news conference Tuesday, the governor said the funding is "closing in on $1 million donated for the February flooding, as well as this [flood event]. This is a fund we can keep open to help people who've been impacted by this severe weather.

Multiple west Kentucky public school districts are celebrating grant awards of more than $1 million each from the Kentucky Department of Education to promote literacy. Crittenden County Schools, Fulton Independent Schools, Graves County Schools, Livingston County Schools and Marshall County Schools each announced that they have received 2025 Kentucky Comprehensive Literacy grants.
