    Two people were seriously injured in an explosion at a construction site at a church in McCracken County Monday. The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office said deputies and other first responders were on the scene around 12:49 p.m. Monday in response to reports of an explosion at Lone Oak First Baptist Church. Sheriff Ryan Norman confirmed that the explosion happened at a building on the church’s property, and he said the two people who were injured are employees of A&K Construction.

    A World War II veteran who fought in the Battle of the Bulge celebrated his 103rd birthday Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Paducah. The man of the hour, Lawrence Durbin, began his service in 1942 in the Army’s 99th Infantry Division. Long after the war ended, his community has continued to remember his service. He was named a Distinguished Veteran by the city of Paducah in 2018.
