Community members in Del Paso Heights celebrated the opening of Sacramento’s newest splash pad on Saturday at Mama Marks Park. The ribbon cutting, however, was met with criticism by some residents. The splash pad replaces the pool at Mama Marks Park. It closed in 2018 due to ongoing maintenance challenges and aging infrastructure, according to the city of Sacramento.

Wastewater samples from the Sacramento Area Sewer District detected measles virus on two consecutive days earlier this month, officials said. The Sacramento Area Sewer District notified the California Department of Public Health that samples received on May 20 and May 21 suggested someone in the community “may be shedding the virus.” Now, the Sacramento County Public Health Department is warning health care providers and community members to remain vigilant.
