    SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — A lice treatment clinic in Maine is advising parents and guardians to be proactive. Specialists at the Lice Clinics of America office in South Portland report seeing a 40 percent increase in cases over the past year. However, Linda Brann said a reason for the jump in cases is that more people are checking for them and are more aware of the signs. Brann said lice cannot fly or jump, but they do scurry, using hair like a ladder.

    SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Dozens of people flocked to the South Portland Library on a chilly Saturday morning with broken or damaged items in hand to be fixed by some knowledgeable volunteers. With a limit of one damaged item per person, people brought anything from clothes to jewelry to electronics to woodwork and more, all to be fixed free of charge.     OGUNQUIT, Maine — For the past two decades, an organization in Maine run by volunteers has been working to make sure kids whose families may not be able to provide Christmas gifts, can still have a little holiday cheer. Ogunquit Spirit of Giving marked its 20th year of collecting gifts for kids associated with non-profits Adoptive & Foster Families of Maine and the Frannie Peabody Center. The motivation behind the efforts is to "give" kids a special holiday, volunteer Rick Barber said.

    PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland Hearts of Pine soccer team is gearing up for their first-ever season this spring. To prepare, upgrades totaling $2.5 million are going into Fitzpatrick Stadium between December this year and February 2025. If you drive by the stadium now, you'll notice the turf is gone. That's because replacing the 10-year-old field with a new artificial one is part of the project.
