Fishers mayor ready to adjust to new state tax bill

Following a late-night signature by Indiana Gov. Mike Braun, the new state tax bill, Senate Bill 1, was officially approved April 15. City of Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness said his office has been paying close attention to the legislation and he believes the resulting bill is “manageable” for the city’s future finances. The local government finance bill will lower property taxes through tax credits and by limiting how much communities can raise through property taxes.
Fishers fourth-grader wins regional science fair prize

Nine-year-old Aamina Ahmed, a fourth-grader at Eman Schools in Fishers, recently won the elementary division at the Central Indiana Regional Science and Engineering Fair, hosted at Marian University in Indianapolis. Ahmed’s project, titled “Gummy Bear Osmosis,” was inspired by her love for the colorful candy. “I really like gummy bears and I think they’re cute,” she said.
Family, friends plan rally for Mason Alexander

Tigers roar in LA: Fishers High School show choirs compete in West Coast event

More than 100 Fishers High School students traveled to California late last month to participate in the Heart of America show choir competition at the Disneyland Hotel in Los Angeles, performing with about a dozen groups from across the country and bringing home first- and second-runner up awards. Electrum Director Scott Archer said the March 22 competition included a preliminary show and if a group did well, they went on to the finals.
Rental registration/cap returning to Fishers council April 21

A proposed ordinance establishing a registration program for single-family rental homes and capping those rentals at a maximum of 10 percent of homes per subdivision will come back to the Fishers City Council April 21 for a second reading, public hearing and possible vote. The council could wait until its May meeting to vote on the measure, but also could choose to vote that evening, said Mayor Scott Fadness in a recent telephone interview.
New senior community proposed in Fishers

A new senior living community has been proposed for a 4-acre site on the corner of 136th Street and Cyntheanne Road in Fishers, offering independent living, memory care and assisted living services. The Fishers Plat Committee approved a primary plat for the Legacy Living development during its regular April 2 meeting, conditional on the developer continuing to work with the Technical Advisory Committee and city officials as plans move forward.
Fishers Kiwanis Club preps 10,000 eggs for annual event

There’s no shortage of eggs for this year’s annual Kiwanis Club of Fishers Easter Egg Hunt, with 10,000 colorful, treat-filled plastic eggs to be distributed in four fields at Holland Park, 1 Park Dr., Fishers, for kids to find. The popular event is set to start at 10 a.m. April 19 at the park, but Kiwanis member and event organizer Nick Vail said it’s a good idea to arrive a little early. “We always say, please try to get there 10 or 15 minutes early, because these kids go crazy for it,” he said.

Fishers Plan Commission split on Gerardot rezone

The Fishers Plan Commission was split 4-4 during its April 2 meeting on whether to recommend a proposed rezone for a new development off Cumberland Road just north of Deering Street. As a result, the rezone for the Gerardot Neighborhood will go to the Fishers City Council without a recommendation. The site already is zoned for residential development, but the current zoning requires at least 15 feet from the lot line to the home and the requested rezone would reduce that to 7 feet.
