The first phase of the redevelopment of the North Yorkshire centre is progressing well and on track to be completed this summer. A range of improvements are under way to breathe new life into the site in the Nidderdale National Landscape, including building a new 84-bed accommodation block which is set to finish by the end of July. The new £3.2million project will boast 14 ensuite rooms, accommodation for visiting staff, a drying room and break-out spaces for future residential school trips.

Caroline Square, Skipton (Image: Craven Herald archive) WHATEVER was going on when this picture was taken, it certainly got people out onto the town centre streets of Skipton. It gives a fascinating view of Caroline Square, at the lower part of High Street, which was used as a bus station during the 1920s and 1930s. The driver of the car, a silver-coloured, two-door Volkswagen Polo, did not remain at the scene of the collision and has still not reported it to police, more than a month after it happened. The collision happened outside the Swadford Tap, in Swadford Street, at 9.19pm on Saturday, May 3. Police say the car collided with the pedestrian who was taken to hospital with a fractured upper jawbone. They received treatment before being discharged the next day.

Given the temperatures expected this week and into the weekend Yorkshire Water is expecting water usage to increase by as much as 100 million litres of water per day, the equivalent of Hull’s daily water usage. Following a dry week, and with Yorkshire now in drought status, reservoir levels dropped to 61.4 percent, from 62.3 percent the week before. 'Temporary usage bans' are a possibility says Yorkshire Water, if there is not significant rain fall in the coming weeks.
