A total of 51 police officers have now been confirmed injured after riots outside a hotel housing asylum seekers in Rotherham. The night of violence happened outside the Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Manvers, Rotherham on Sunday, August 4. Officers had missiles thrown at them including concrete blocks, chairs, tree branches, fire extinguishers, glass bottles and cans.

A pedestrian has been seriously injured after a car reversed into him in Leeds. It happened in Pennington Court on Hunslet Hall Road in Beeston at about 9.35am on Friday, 2 August. A white Volkswagen Crafter was reversing into the road from Disraeli Gardens when it was in collision with the pedestrian, an 80-year-old man. The man, aged 80, remains in hospital, West Yorkshire Police said. Anyone with information is asked to contact police quoting log reference is 0521 of 2 August.

Life has become a ‘nightmare’ say the family of a young woman who was killed in a crash caused by a selfish driver. Leon Roberts, 25, was driving at speeds of nearly 100mph when he crashed into a parked taxi on the Sheffield Parkway in February 2023. He then ran from the wreckage, leaving his injured friends fighting for their lives in his car that was about to go up in flames. Passenger Sharna Burgin, aged 23, died a few days later.

People in Leeds can now put glass bottles into their green recycling bins. It is the first time residents in Leeds have been able to do this, having previously had to put them in general waste or go to a glass bottle recycling bank. However, from August 1, they can go in green household bins along with paper, cardboard, plastic and metal. What glass can be recycling in the green household bin?
