CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Across the Coastal Bend, the month of May is marked by several end-of-year awards assemblies and special graduation ceremonies. Among those is one hosted by the Coastal Bend Blood Center as a way to say 'thank you' to thousands of area high school students. According to Ashley Ramirez, Community Outreach & Education Coordinator for the Coastal Bend Blood Center, it's high school students who account for 30 percent of the blood supply collected in our region.

VATICAN CITY, — Tens of thousands of people at St. Peter's Square on the first day of the conclave all gathered to watch for black smoke rise from the Sistine Chapel. In Rome, Pope Francis passed away Easter Monday at the age of 88. The late pope chose to be buried in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. He is the first pope to be buried outside Saint Peter's Basilica in over a century and the 7th pope buried at Santa Maria Maggiore.
