Kamloops city hall has been operating with two city managers. While one is on leave, the other took home a hefty raise last year. CAO Byron McCorkell was paid just over $300,000 in 2024, up from $241,300 in 2023. That's according to the city's annual financial report, which details the salaries and benefits for each employee earning more than $75,000 per year.

A Kamloops city councillor has pitched an idea to reduce the speed limit on residential streets in the city. If approved, every speed limit on residential streets would be reduced to school zone speeds, 30 km/h, unless otherwise posted. "Basically what we need to look at is: are we prioritizing the movement of people or traffic?" Coun. Stephen Karpuk said at a committee meeting this week.

The Kamloops courthouse was locked down Thursday morning as police investigated an unfolding incident. What spurred the evacuation isn’t clear, but Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Const. Sofie Winkels said officers cleared the building around 9 a.m., June 19, out of an "abundance of caution."BC Sheriffs continued guarding the area outside the courthouse into the afternoon and couldn't say when the incident would be resolved.

One person is in hospital after a shooting at a rooming house in downtown Kamloops. Police have the scene in the 600 block of Battle Street locked down while the seriously-wounded victim was picked up by paramedics from a nearby convenience store. Kamloops RCMP said the extent of the unnamed victim's injuries isn't known. The shooting appears to have been isolated to one of the units. Police are not allowing residents of the rooming house back inside as the investigation continues.

A trade union recruiter was barred from a Kamloops construction site and someone took to advertising his banishment. Kamloops' largest ever residential construction site is ample recruitment grounds for Brian Andrews. He said he has tried and so far failed to get access to City Gardens, so he speaks with electricians on their lunch breaks. Those efforts, however, led someone to post a large sign to the work site fencing.
