A Kamloops school board trustee is leaving his stipend behind as area schools are facing budget pressures. Trustee Jo Kang asked his colleagues to join him in donating their income, almost $30,000 per year each, back to the district. His effort largely fell flat. "My thing was about making noise and making a statement out in the public so the province realizes they're underfunding," Kang told iNFOnews.ca. The school district is poised to cut dozens of jobs to deal with a nearly $6 million shortfall.

A Kamloops jury has acquitted a man charged in the shooting death of a Scotch Creek man in 2021. Paul Binder, born 1970, was accused of second-degree murder, but his lawyers argued the bullet that killed John Vance was either an accident or self-defence. A 12-person jury returned after less than a day of deliberation to find Binder not guilty of murder or manslaughter. It was never suggested, throughout Binder's trial, someone else shot Vance or that anything other than Binder's bullet killed him.

A workplace investigation in Kamloops found a concrete company used the wrong equipment and was overseen by an underqualified supervisor when a parkade roof collapsed at the city's largest-ever residential build. One person was injured when newly-poured concrete collapsed at Kelson Group's downtown construction site two months ago. A WorkSafeBC investigation found it could have been far worse, but it also could have been prevented.

A Kamloops jury is behind closed doors to deliberate whether or not to convict a Shuswap man for a fatal shooting in 2021. Paul Binder, born in 1970, is accused of killing John Vance, 32, at a Scotch Creek car wash. The Crown sought to prove to a jury he should be jailed for second-degree murder during the week-long BC Supreme Court trial. "You decide the facts of the case, I do not," Justice Jasmin Ahmad told the jury.
