CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — According to this year's Barefoot Mardi Gras Event Director, Elaine Motl, the local Coastal Bend spin on the famous holiday started 14 years ago as a backyard bash. "Mardi Gras is a celebration of Padre Island," Motl said. "Getting families and friends out on the beach to celebrate our own type of Mardi Gras which is barefoot." Now a tradition on North Padre Island, the attraction brings out thousands of spectators which help boost the island's economy.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Despite the tension in some team rivalries, one thing most fans can agree on is they like to eat, and they don't want it to cost an arm and a leg for them to do so. Employees at local meat markets like managing partner Christian Ockels with Champs Meat Market, said they are doing the best they can for their customers' pockets but they can't help supply and demand issues. Ockels said they know all about sourcing because their meat comes from their own cattlemen.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — You can never be too sure what you'll see wash up on our Texas beaches, but it’s especially not good when it's local wildlife. The weekend saw several reports of a dolphin washed up at Padre Island National Seashore. The dolphin was no longer in the area Monday, but the Texas Stranded Mammal Network was aware of the incident and had some insight. Executive director Heidi Whitehead tells 3NEWS it’s not uncommon to see a washed-up dolphin during this time of the year.
