One person was killed and two others injured in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 70 at Double Springs Road Wednesday afternoon. The crash involved a 2014 Ford Focus traveling east on US 70N and a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica traveling west on US 70N near West Gate Drive, according to the preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.  THP said the Ford Focus crossed the center line into the eastbound lane and struck the Pacifica head-on, which resulted in the overturning of the Pacifica.

One of the issues to be decided in the case against two men charged in the shooting of a state trooper last summer is whether their punishment could be life without parole. Timothy Laquan Davis Jr., 25, of Nashville, and Braze Roland Rucker, 29, of Nashville, appeared in the courtroom of Judge Gary McKenzie in Putnam County Criminal Court April 25.

Earlier this month, Cookeville was recognized for being a Tree City USA for 36 years. The city must fulfill four requirements annually to be a Tree City USA including an active tree ordinance, having a tree care or community advocacy group, celebrating Arbor Day and spending at least $2 per capita on growing and sustaining the urban and community forest.
