Police have taped off a Dundee barber shop after an early morning fire. Residents say they saw “smoke everywhere” during the blaze at The Barber Club on Albert Street in Stobswell at around 4am on Wednesday. Firefighters spent an hour at the scene. A police car remains parked outside the shop with the pavement taped off. One resident living near the barber shop, who asked not to be named, said: “We were woken up at around 4.30am when our fire alarm went off.

Dunfermline’s Mercat Cross has been significantly damaged. Dunfermline and Dollar MP Graeme Downie says he will discuss the issue with police, whose inquiries are ongoing, amid fears it may have been vandalised again. The structure on the High Street dates back to the 1860s. According to Mr Downie there is “a lot of damage” to the stonework and the steps of the monument.

Four boys have been treated in hospital after being “attacked” by a gang of 30 “balaclava wearing” youths near a Fife beauty spot. The incident happened near Pettycur Bay in Kinghorn on Thursday. It is understood that the gang of 30 attacked the group of six boys with weapons, including a glass bottle. The four who required hospital treatment are all believed to be recovering. They are said to have suffered broken noses and arms, bruising and cuts and required stitches and surgery.

A 67-year-old biker has died in a crash in Highland Perthshire. The incident happened on the A827 about six miles east of Killin, near Lawers, around 4.25pm on Friday,The rider, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police appeal for informationThe road was closed for seven hours following the incident for police to carry out an investigation. It has since re-opened.

The family of Steven Donaldson are demanding to know why Angus killer Tasmin Glass is back in prison. The Donaldsons were notified on Tuesday that Glass had been returned to custody after her parole licence was revoked. She was released in July last year having served just half a ten-year sentence for culpable homicide for her role in the murder of Steven in Kirriemuir. Steven’s parents, Bill and Pam Donaldson, received a letter on Tuesday informing them the killer is back in custody.
