    DENVER (KDVR) — As summer vacation nears for families, the nonprofit Safe Kids Worldwide is marking May as “Safe Kids Month.” The goal is to ensure families know how to avoid accidents in the warmer months. Experts said serious accidents for kids can go up 40% between May and August. The nonprofit said important safety checks include, making sure your child’s car seat fits correctly, practicing helmet safety on bikes and scooters, and never leaving your child alone in a warm car.

    DENVER (KDVR) — Thursday marks two years since two restaurant employees were killed at the American Elm restaurant, and still, no arrests in the case have been made. Emerall Vaugh-Dahler and Ignacio Gutierrez Morales were fatally shot at the restaurant off of W. 38th St. in Denver while working; no possible motive or suspect description is publicly known. Denver Police are putting the word out and reminding anyone with information leading to an arrest could get a $32,600 reward.

    DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — The Douglas County School District is the latest district grappling with lower enrollment. Officials said early planning is underway to close and consolidate some of its elementary schools in the 2026-27 school year. School officials cite lower birth rates as a contributing factor, noting young families are choosing different areas to live in Douglas County and some school locations are no longer ideal.
