1 Introduction It is the stated aim of the current Australian Government to reform Medicare to support the primary care health workforce to work to the top of their scope of practice within multidisciplinary teams (Stengthening Medicare Taskforce 2023). Medicare was designed at a time when most of primary care was provided by general practitioners (GPs), treating predominantly acute episodes of illness.

The Australian government is currently considering a bill to implement the next stage of reforms to vaping regulation. At present, vaping products that don't contain nicotine can be sold in regular shops, such as convenience stores, like tobacco products are. To use vaping products that contain nicotine, people must have a prescription from a doctor or a nurse practitioner, and get the prescription filled at a pharmacy.
