The Waterbury Select Board approved many appointments to town boards and commissions at its April 21 meeting and fine-tuned term lengths for one of its newest boards, the Housing Task Force. Most positions on the municipal volunteer bodies have terms ending on April 30, so this is the time of year for those serving to potentially request to be reappointed and for new members to join. Below is a recap of the nominations and appointments made.

Vermont State Police say a Moretown man will face charges in state criminal court next month for furnishing alcohol to two minors on multiple occasions and sending the juveniles inappropriate electronic messages. In a news release on Monday, Trooper David Lambert said state police on April 24 received a report of an individual providing a minor with alcohol in Waterbury.

Underscoring that they prefer Waterbury voters to pick their own representatives to the Harwood School Board, the Waterbury Select Board recommend that two former school board appointees return to their posts for another year.
At an April 7 meeting, the board interviewed four applicants for two vacant Waterbury seats on the Harwood Unified Union School Board. The board recommended that the Harwood board re-appoint Elizabeth Brown and Dan Roscioli.

The Harwood Unified Union School District School Board made three appointments last week, filling vacancies left by the March election — but it followed just two of three recommendations from select boards in Waterbury and Duxbury. The school board voted unanimously to appoint Dan Roscioli to a Waterbury seat and Emily Dolloff to a Duxbury seat. Roscioli served on the school board for the past year after being appointed in April 2024, but he did not seek election on Town Meeting Day.

Cuts to the small federal agency that supports public libraries and museums across the country will impact efforts in Vermont to preserve local history, including a program that involved the Waterbury Historical Society. The Vermont Historical Society on Thursday announced that due to the termination of a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, it would lay off a staff member and stop work on a new local history project.

Trooper Mae Murdock in a news release said police on April 17, around 9:45 a.m. received a report that a 1974 Honda Passport motorcycle was stolen from a home at 11 North Main Street in Waterbury. The ensuing investigation found that the yellow and white motorcycle with a black seat was taken around noon on Tuesday, April 15. “Witnesses to the theft advised a young male in a green sweatshirt drove away on the motorcycle,” Murdock wrote in the release.

Longtime Perry Hill resident Al Lewis picked up on the pavement and lane markings point. He brought a homemade map with photos of the intersection from various angles to illustrate marking additional turning lanes on the existing roadways at the Stowe Street and Blush Hill Road entry points to the intersection as well as on Rt. 100 northbound where it meets Stowe Street. Former Town Manager Bill Shepeluk said he thought Lewis’ idea has merit.
