Heading to a Texas beach this summer? Pack your sunscreen, plenty of water, and before you hit the road, check your destination's fecal bacteria level to make sure the water is safe for swimming. The General Land Office tests the water quality at the state’s beaches weekly through the summer, monitoring for the enterococcus bacteria that can be a sign of fecal contamination in the water.
