A Lincoln man has been sentenced to two years of probation for a crash last July that killed a 48-year-old motorcyclist. Jeffrey Ramirez, 68, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide earlier this year for causing Robert "Bob" Finley's death unintentionally while failing to yield to the right of way or careless driving. Lancaster County Court Judge Joseph Dalton also fined him $1,000 at his sentencing Friday and ordered him to complete 240 hours of community service.

Lincoln police are investigating a report of gunshots being fired early Sunday in the area of South 25th and R streets. Sgt. Chris Vollmer said officers arrived to find spent handgun casings in the street, but didn't find anyone injured or damage consistent with gunfire. He said the preliminary investigation suggests someone in a vehicle may have been firing at someone on the sidewalk, who then returned fire.

A 38-year-old man has been jailed on suspicion of a stabbing Saturday morning in west Lincoln. Police called to the area of South First and M streets just before 2:30 a.m. found a 39-year-old Lincoln man with stab wounds to his legs and arms. The victim was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Lincoln Police Sgt.

Lincoln police have identified the man killed in a crash early Friday as 63-year-old William Deckard of Lincoln. It happened at 5:41 a.m. at North 56th Street and Fletcher Avenue. In the accident report, Lincoln Police said Deckard was driving a Nissan Xterra SUV southbound on 56th Street when he turned to go east onto Fletcher and crashed into a northbound Chevy Tahoe, driven by Kwajuan Mensah of Lincoln. The crash sent the Nissan spinning into a guardrail. Deckard died at the scene.

Both sides rested Thursday in a defamation case over claims that the Nebraska Republican Party made in back-to-back flyers in a race for a state legislative seat in 2020 between two members of the party. When the first flyer landed in Janet Palmtag's mailbox, saying she "broke the law & lost her real estate license," Palmtag said she called up Ryan Hamilton, then-executive director of the state GOP and asked him to fix it. She had never lost her license, and she had no discipline on her license.
