A care support assistant at an Ontario long-term care home has been charged with sexual assault following a police investigation into allegations involving a vulnerable female resident. York Regional Police say officers responded to the facility on June 19 after receiving a report of a sexual assault. Due to the victim’s medical condition, she was unable to provide a statement, but investigators were able to identify a suspect through their inquiries.

A man is facing several charges after a dramatic midday robbery involving a knife and a replica firearm at a retail store in Toronto’s west end, police say. Toronto Police Service (TPS) officers responded to a holdup alarm just after 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday in the area of Eglinton Avenue West and Dufferin Street. According to investigators, a masked man entered a store while carrying a large knife, allegedly took a replica Glock 17 BB handgun from the shelf, and walked out.

The Toronto Police Service (TPS) are urging residents and visitors to be on high alert following a surge in cell phone thefts at public summer festivals and large gatherings throughout the city’s downtown core. According to police, there has been a noticeable increase in reports of pickpocket-style thefts targeting mobile phones during events held in May and June 2025, particularly within 14 Division, which covers parts of downtown Toronto where many public festivals take place.

Toronto Public Health (TPH) says it recorded 42 heat-related emergency room visits during the city’s recent heatwave. A TPH spokesperson told CityNews that the ER visits occurred between June 22 and June 24, when Toronto and much of southern Ontario were under a multi-day heat warning. “TPH monitors heat-related emergency department visits,” they said.
