Western Australia's livestock industry has been dealt another blow with a key sheep abattoir shuttered pending a review by its owners. Minerva Foods Australia (MFA) has ceased operations of its abattoir at Tammin, 180 kilometres east of Perth, to conduct a review of operations and determine further investment needs.

The farming family behind the newest wind farm proposal in regional Western Australia hopes it will contribute millions of dollars to the local community over its 35-year life span. Parron Developments and Atmos Renewables plan to build the 79-turbine Parron Wind Farm on a 8,400-hectare farm at Badgingarra, 200 kilometres north of Perth.

Exports of live western rock lobsters to China have resumed following four years of trade tensions between Australia and China. Lobster is the last of a suite of Australian goods, including wine and beef, to be welcomed back to the lucrative market. The first commercial batch of rock oysters grown at the Abrholos Islands have been harvested. It marks the beginning of a new industry for Western Australia's Midwest region. Two local commercial farms hope to eventually supply four million fresh oysters to the domestic market each year. The pristine waters of the Batavia Coast are set to add a new locally grown delicacy to seafood platters across Western Australia as the region begins to harvest its first farmed rock oysters.

Hundreds of tonnes of honey will be lost as a result of bushfires burning north of Perth, with apiarists expecting the loss of pristine vegetation to impact bee populations for the next decade.
