The Bishop of Penrith Rt Rev Rob Saner-Haigh (Image: Stuart Walker) The current Bishop of Penrith, the Rt Rev Rob Saner-Haigh, has been announced by Downing Street as the 68th Bishop of Carlisle. In May 2022, Bishop Rob was appointed the Bishop of Penrith and has been the Acting Bishop of Carlisle since September 2023. Having served his curacy in the county from 2005, he has ministered for all but two years in Cumbria.

30-year-old man arrested in Penrith after being stopped and searched (Image: WMP) A 30-year-old man was arrested in Penrith after being stopped and searched. On Tuesday evening in Penrith Town Centre, Eden Police officers stopped the man for a search under Section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act. The individual was located with a quantity of cannabis on his possession and was then arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis.

Since I started out roughly 20 years ago, the number of World War II veterans at these events has dwindled to just a small number. Military dignitaries pay tribute to Carlisle's Joseph Blackburn (Image: Supplied) A memorial plaque has been erected in Yorkshire to remember a Carlisle man who died as part of an RAF crew during World War II. December 18 last year marked the 80th anniversary of the crash of Halifax MZ538, in which Carlisle man, Pilot Officer Joseph Blackburn, was killed when it crashed in the village of Alne in north Yorkshire.

Police have released CCTV footage as part of the investigation to identify the people involved. Officers would like to speak with the two men shown on CCTV as part of the investigation.
