Fatal Crash For Salem Man in Phelps County

(Jerome) A man from Salem was killed following a two vehicle crash Thursday on I-44 westbound in Phelps County. The Highway Patrol says the accident happened at mile marker 170 near Jerome when a 2004 Kawasaki driven by 54-year-old Thomas Zielinski of Salem ran off the road and overturned, throwing Zielinski from the vehicle. The Kawasaki continued into the eastbound lane and was struck by a Kia Sedona driven by 74-year-old Gail Peterson of Milwaukee.

Mineral Point Pedestrian Dies after being Struck by Big Rig in Washington County

(Springtown) A man from Mineral Point was struck and killed Friday night just after 11 o’clock by a tractor-trailer in Washington County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 33-year-old John A. Laws was walking in the road on Highway 8, just west of ‘U’ Highway when he was struck by the big rig driven by 44-year-old Kenneth L. Lyons of Bonne Terre. After striking Laws with the vehicle, the 2006 Peterbilt began to skid and ran off the right side of the road.
Fugitive Arrested in Franklin County Now in Crawford County Jail

(Steelville) A 41-year-old man who has been on the run for more than two years has been arrested in Franklin County. Paul Burks Junior was charged in November of 2021 with two counts of first-degree statutory rape of a child under age 14. Reports say Burks continually eluded arrest until detectives found him at a residence in Catawissa. He’s being held in the Crawford County Jail in Steelville with bail set at 100-thousand-dollars cash only on each count.
