Fannie Mae is partnering with artificial intelligence software company Palantir Technologies to more quickly detect mortgage fraud as it pushes to exit a federal conservatorship and go private. Fannie Mae’s Crime Detection Unit will use AI-enabled technology to monitor millions of datasets and detect patterns indicative of fraud at a “speed and precision never before seen in the U.S. housing market,” the quasi-governmental lending firm said in a press release.

A financially distressed Class-A building in Houston’s Galleria area faces a drop in value and potential foreclosure, according to Morningstar Credit data and Harris County records. The Decorative Center of Houston, a 515K SF office and showroom at 5120 Woodway Drive, has a new appraised value of $48.8M, Morningstar Credit reported this month. That is down from a $77.8M appraisal in 2014, according to Morningstar.

Howard Hughes Holdings Inc. acquired 10101 Woodloch Forest Drive, a Class-A office building in The Woodlands, for $16.3M. The unoccupied, eight-story building will be renamed Waterway 7 and add more than 200K SF to Howard Hughes’ office portfolio in the master-planned city. The building sits on a 1.6-acre site with 700 parking spaces in an adjacent garage. It was originally built in 2009.

An overwhelming majority of the Texas Legislature has indicated it is ready to shutter an industry responsible for $5.5B in annual sales, more than 50,000 jobs and thousands of retail storefronts, distribution centers and cultivation operations. The Texas House voted 95-44 Wednesday evening to pass a complete ban on all hemp-based products containing tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the main intoxicating ingredient in marijuana.
