A 19-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after a Connecticut State Police trooper observed him driving at a speed later confirmed to be 132 mph. The trooper saw a Mercedes-Benz E300 traveling at excessive speed on I-91 south near Cromwell and tried to initiate a traffic stop with lights and sirens. The driver accelerated away, making unsafe lane changes and weaving in and out of traffic, the trooper's report said. Because of the hazard being created, the trooper stopped the pursuit.

The Trump administration's revocation of student visas for foreign students vocally opposed to Israel's continued strikes on Gaza has spread to the South. Public and private colleges and universities across the Sun Belt have reported that at least a few of their students have had their status as welcome scholars revoked, with Texas A&M University and Florida International University posting even bigger numbers.

An Arizona prison inmate serving 16 life sentences for a 2004 standoff at a correction institution is suspected of killing three inmates last week, officials said. Ricky Wassenaar is the sole suspect in the deaths of the three inmates, which occurred after “an altercation” at the prison in Tucson on Friday, the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry said.

Dramatic video caught the moment a 9-year-old North Carolina student saved his classmate from choking by performing the Heimlich maneuver last week. Jayceon Branch, a student at Raleigh Charter Elementary, stepped up at the perfect moment to save his friend while they were on the basketball court. The incident, caught on school surveillance cameras, shows Jayceon approach his friend, 7-year-old Donye Moore, after he appears to hunch over. Donye was eating a granola bar that got stuck in his throat.
