Governor Lombardo has signed a bill requiring businesses offering inflatable devices, to meet specific safety requirements. Assembly Bill 198, or Lizzy's Law, was named after 9-year-old Lizzy Hammond who died in a bounce house after wind blew the structure into Reno power lines back in 2019.

NDOT's Freeway Service Patrol program, also known as FSP, has been helping drivers in need in the Reno/Sparks area since 2002. "Crash incidents, disabled vehicles, abandoned vehicles, anything on the freeway, we deal with," said Cameron Crowell, Director of Operations for NSP. This is a job that requires a wide range of qualifications including a hazmat certification, basic mechanic knowledge for automotive repair, first aid, AED, plus multiple levels of traffic incident management training.

Sparks City Council has voted on a $112 million budget after spending months fixing the deficit. City Manager Dion Louthan says they managed to nearly close an $18.2 million gap, but not without making some cutbacks, including on some of their first responders. "Public safety makes up over 70% of our budget and with that we took a very strategic approach to how we did it," he says. 13 city workers have been laid off, including five fire fighters and freezing three vacant police officer positions.
