HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — A local doctor is sounding the alarm about rundown and abandoned homes in Harrisburg. Family practice doctor Dr. Michelle Vera is concerned about trash and demolished buildings sitting on properties in the area of South 13th Street in Harrisburg. She said the accumulation of trash in homes leads to increased rodent infestations, which pose serious health risks.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — The future of a Midstate EMS company is uncertain as its contract is under consideration for termination after 30 years of service. Yellow Breeches plans to add intermediate advanced life support service along with its current basic life support service. They said South Middleton Township notified them in a meeting last week that their EMS contract is being considered for termination.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — Primary Election turnout was low in Harrisburg’s Mayor race, which incumbent Mayor Wanda Williams won by less than 100 votes. A major theme of the race was rebuilding the fire-damaged Broad Street Market, something Williams faced criticism for not completing faster. Williams says lots of development progressed and renovations were made during her term, but work still needs to be done at the market. She expects construction to start in the fall.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — The Pennsylvania Municipal League is joining state municipal leagues nationwide for an advocacy effort in Washington, D.C. this week. York, Harrisburg, Carlisle, Susquehanna Township, Camp Hill, Middleton, Steelton, and other municipalities from Midstate Pennsylvania are being represented. The Pennsylvania Municipal League said it is trying to understand how potential federal cuts might impact funding from agencies like FEMA and HUD.

Lori and Tim Mader adopted their daughter Carly fourteen years ago when she was born through private adoption. “My husband and I got married about 15 years ago,” Mader says. “I had already had four children, and he really wanted to have a child.”They realized how expensive the adoption process can be.
