Anyia Roberts helped the Red squad get a little confidence during the Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star duals. The Red were trailing 22-12 before the former Grand Island Senior High wrestled against the Blue’s Diesel Janovich of Elkhorn. Roberts won the match 4-0 and helped the Red win five of the last eight matches as the dual ended with a 26-all tie Saturday at the the Nebraska National Guard Armory in Grand Island.

A former city wrestler and a former wrestling contributor will be honored for their accolades to the sport of wrestling. Former Grand Island Senior High and Northwest wrestler Blake Fruchtl, along with Aurora’s Jim Garfield will be inducted into the Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame during a banquet to be held at 6 p.m. Friday at Boulder Flatts in Grand Island. Fruchtl and Garfield will be two of 15 people being to be inducted.

Rudy Sautron had an eagle on his first hole of the second day of the Allen Capital Group Championships. The University of Nebraska golfer’s day only got better after that. After being in a four-way tie for the lead after the first day, Sautron finished with two eagles, along with six birdies as he fired a 64 second-day score to help him take the tournament title with a 12-under, 132 two-day total Sunday at Riverside Golf Club.
