    MADISON – License plate cameras will soon be popping up around Madison. The Madison city council approved the installation of Flock Safety license plate recognition cameras for use by the Madison Police Department at the March 24 city council meeting. The cameras use vehicle fingerprint technology that identifies cars by their make, model, and color in addition to their license plate numbers. The cameras are not red light or speeding cameras.

    MADISON – Enjoy the Alabama spring weather with a side of local history on Huntsville-Madison County Convention and Visitors Bureau’s spring history walking tours. The CVB offers walking tours of local historic districts guided by local history experts every April and October. The spring tours take place on Saturday mornings throughout the month and feature a different historic area. This year, the first two weekends will showcase the Five Points and Old Town districts in downtown Huntsville.

    MADISON – March is Women’s History Month, and in commemoration, Madison Mayor Paul Finley signed a proclamation at last week’s Madison City Council designating March 30 as Women- Owned Business Day in the city of Madison. The proclamation recognizes the role of women in the national and local workforce. The state of Alabama ranks 15th in the country for women- owned businesses with an estimated 153,000 women-owned businesses producing $19 billion in sales.

    MADISON – Master Gardeners of North Alabama is partnering with the City of Madison to construct and maintain a greenhouse at the Madison Community Center. At last week’s Madison City Council meeting, the city council approved a contract with MGNA for the non-profit to pay for the construction of a greenhouse on land adjacent to the community center building. The greenhouse is to be 24 feet by 60 feet in size. MGNA will also have use of a storage shed on community center grounds.

    Peak tornado season is here in North Alabama. National Service Weather data shows that more tornadoes have occurred in March and April in Alabama than in any other month. A total of 475 and 609 tornadoes have been recorded in those months, respectively, over the last 100 hundred years.
