For a little taste of what’s been happening in San Francisco’s Bayview district, visit Smoke Soul Kitchen during their lively weekend brunch. Diners savor chef-owner Vanessa Lee’s shrimp and grits flanked by a mural depicting Black dancers and a wall with family photos. The biscuits, which Lee proudly proclaims she makes by hand, are a particular hit. “People are excited about the restaurant and that’s important to me,” said the longtime Bayview resident.
