CHICAGO (CBS) — Chicago's official Christmas tree will be cut down Friday in Logan Square on Friday. This year's tree is a 53-foot Colorado blue spruce donated by the Holden-Shaddick family. The owners say the tree was planted almost 50 years ago by the home's previous owner, Jim Mulligan. Mulligan worked for the city and is being honored with a street sign. "I think its cool because that's going to be my tree that was in my backyard," a Holden-Shaddick family member said.

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn.- Vicki Hunter couldn't make sense of the giant trees rushing toward the front porch of her one-story home. She watched them, stunned, as floodwater raged across her pasture and began to inundate the property. She yelled to her husband, Jerry, to get dressed in case they needed to evacuate. By the time he did, their cars were flooded and they could not flee. Rescue crews in boats tried to reach the house but were unsuccessful.
