Shades of 2009-2010 — when there were 297 bank failures nationwide — are looming in an unusual battle between the Federal Communications Commission and one of the most recognized bank rating agencies. The FCC isn’t a banking regulator, per se, but it dipped into the field late last year when it eliminated the use of Weiss Ratings as the standard for U.S. banks to be considered “acceptable” to the commission for purposes of issuing qualifying program letters of credit.

Tampa-based Westfall Roofing, in a move to build out its C-suite leadership team, has named a chief marketing officer and a chief financial officer. The company, with $52.18 million in revenue in 2024, appointed Anissa Westfall as CMO. She was previously director of marketing and growth, and brings over two decades of brand strategy and customer engagement expertise to the role, according to a statement.

Lee County commissioners have approved a $2.6 million contract to replace the seats at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, the spring training home of the Boston Red Sox. Commissioners, according to a statement from the county, voted Tuesday to replace the “aging stadium seating by piggybacking on an existing vendor contract from a purchasing organization.” The stadium’s existing seats, in place since the facility opened in March 2012, are sun-bleached and are becoming brittle, with some cracking.

U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Naples, who announced three months ago he is running for governor of Florida in 2026, says the Sunshine State is already pretty great. His goal, he told a crowd of business leaders Friday at Michael’s on East in Sarasota, is to make it even better. “We have to continue to build from what Governor Scott and Governor DeSantis have done in making this a great state,” Donalds said. “We have the opportunity to become the financial capital of the world.
