South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks’ popular Lewis and Clark Park District is prepared to welcome people for the busy warm-weather months of 2025. All of the park district’s campgrounds and comfort stations (bathroom and shower buildings) — including across the Lewis and Clark, Chief White Crane and Pierson Ranch Recreation Areas west of Yankton — are open for visitors to use. “We’re looking forward to a good May,” District Park Supervisor Shane Bertsch told the Press & Dakotan.

CENTER, Neb. — Two kinds of commercial renewable energy projects could soon be prohibited in one northeast Nebraska county. The nine-member Knox County Planning Commission held a special meeting, with two public hearings, Tuesday evening in front of a large crowd at The Barn at God’s Country just northwest of Center, Nebraska, to receive public comments regarding a proposed ban on all new commercial wind and solar developments in the county.

RANDOLPH, Neb. — A northeast Nebraska school district is pursuing voter approval for a bond proposal during a May special election. Randolph Public Schools, which covers parts of Cedar, Pierce and Wayne counties, has asked voters to approve an approximately $8.75 million bond that would be paid over the next 20 years. The bond levy is projected to be 9.5 cents per $100 of taxable valuation on properties within the school district.

CENTER, Neb. — A new, nearly 300-foot-long bridge is being installed just west of the Knox County seat community of Center, Nebraska. Herbst Construction, Inc., of rural Le Mars, Iowa, had the winning bid for what is known as the Center West project and started working on April 14. The old bridge that crossed over the Bazile Creek on 881st Road within sight of the Knox County Courthouse is being replaced.
