    It’s an opportunity for west Niagara residents to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands from Nazi tyranny and celebrate the friendship between Canadians and the Dutch people. On May 3, The Dutch Shop on Main Street West in Grimsby is holding a liberation party. Owner Daniel Vandersteen said the atmosphere will be a festive one, with decorations and flags — and free slices of Dutch mocha cake.

    It’s a chance for Lincoln residents to learn about tree planting, gardening and other green endeavours. Samantha Witkowski, the town’s environmental co-ordinator, said EcoFest is an event tied to Earth Day (April 22). “We’re focusing on trees,” said Witkowski, who noted they will be offering 100 native saplings, including sugar maple, black walnut and eastern red cedar trees to Lincoln residents in exchange for a donation.
